Team NYC

As many of you know, this evening marked the official start to my training. I met with 5 other DFMC runners who live in NYC for dinner and it was such a delight. I am going to be running in some terribly fabulous company!

Megan - born and raised in NYC, her parents have had the same apt in NYC for 38 years! She’s applied to Master’s programs all over the country for speech pathology and is awaiting the results. She spent last year teaching English interpretation in Russia. Freakin’ Siberia. No joke. Lives right by me so it’ll be nice to have a West Side Highway partner (for the time being at least until I move to Brooklyn).

Charley - fascinating. A lawyer for the NYC public school system (I hope I’m not butchering this) who does litigation for Special Education cases against the city. I didn’t even know this job exists, but it’s incredible. This will be his..drumroll please…18th marathon. Oh, and then in August he’s doing the Ironman. Dude, seriously.

Jane - just finishing med school and will be applying for residency programs in Dermatology in the coming months. Her first marathon as well as mine so it’s going to be really fun to see her cross the finish line!

Mike - now this is one heck of a guy. He’s in his 60s and is seriously dear. Gave me lots of advice about ‘goo’ - I challenged him to a taste test. He’s going to be a great mentor and a fun personality to have on the team. He lives upstate and took a two hour train ride down to come meet us. How cool is that? He’s also offered to drive to Boston a couple Thursday evenings when they do the Heartbreak Hill runs. Now that’s dedication.

Laurie - graphic designer for SELF mag. Need I say more?

So fun!! Gotta love DFMC bringing people together. Only in New York. What a place.
